This morning I am thinking of the Americans and visitors who lost their lives on that terrible day the towers fell, 9/11/2001, and of family members and loved ones who were left behind to cope. The images remain etched in the minds and hearts of all of us, of the carnage and horror of that day. There are times when mere words fail. We see it all replayed on television, on the internet, and in our own minds. We remember. Let us never forget.
Some of the inscriptions I have seen etched on my ancestors headstones come to mind. These are words of loss and comfort, of loved ones torn away too soon.
"If tears could build a stairway,
And memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to Heaven
And bring you home again.
~Author Unknown"
"When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. ~Author Unknown"
"Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow,
May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.
~Author Unknown"
"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. ~From a headstone in Ireland"
I lit a candle, I shed a tear,....I remembered. Did you?
